Southern Branch

The Southern Branch has an office based in Dunedin and covers the lower part of the South Island from Oamaru to Invercargill.

With no government funding, the branch relies on donations and grants to continue its work in the community.  The branch committee fundraise throughout the year for local services.

To find out more about joining the branch, or becoming involved, please contact the branch Fieldworker, Jo Smith (pictured below with our previous chairperson Robbie Verhoef) by email [email protected] or by phoning National Office on 0800 800 337.

Committee members

Andrew Willetts lives in Oamaru and has lived experience of disability, and he has been involved with the MDANZ since 1995. At the March 2018 AGM Andrew was voted into the role of Chairperson of the Southern Branch. This role of Chairperson is a relatively new role for Andrew however he has served on other disability-focused committees in the past. Andrew studied at Canterbury University and trained in education. Currently, he works as a Teachers’ Aide at a local primary school. Andrew hopes that the work that the MDANZ does continues to educate and raise awareness of the vast range of neuromuscular conditions covered by the organisation.  He also is passionate to see the MDANZ continue to build active support networks so that both people with neuromuscular conditions, and their family/whanau feel included in our community. Andrew enjoys movies, music, spending time with friends and family, and of course, drinking coffee.
