Make a Bequest

Your generous gift can make a big difference

The types of services and supports provided by the Muscular Dystrophy Association of New Zealand (MDANZ) are only possible through the generosity of people like yourself. We have been helping Kiwi families for more than 60 years and with your help, we hope to be there for others in the future.

Neuromuscular conditions can impact a person at any stage in life. The main symptom is progressive muscle weakness, which slowly takes away many of the freedoms people take for granted, like walking, driving, and holding a pen to write, to even more serious things like swallowing and breathing. There are few treatments and no cures. Because of the genetic nature of many of these conditions, both individuals and extended whānau can be deeply affected by a diagnosis.

Any bequest, no matter what size, will directly help those living with neuromuscular conditions, and enable us to continue our work within your community. Every dollar helps in our efforts to:

  • Provide specialised information about rare neuromuscular conditions to individuals, families, health professionals, schools, and communities
  • ProvideOffer free counselling and social support to individuals, parents, extended whanau, and carers who are impacted by neuromuscular conditions
  • ProvideBe an independent advocate for the community that we serve, promoting best care standards and access to resources
  • ProvideAdvance research and link New Zealanders with treatment opportunities, promoting medicines access and innovative science for these incurable conditions
  • ProvideFund life enhancing resources that are not met by government funding

The importance of a Will

A current Will is important and is the best way to have peace of mind and provide for those you leave behind. We know that family and friends come first and that in creating your Will, you have carefully considered what will happen when you’ve gone and the people and places you would like to benefit from your assets.

If you are considering leaving a gift to our organisation, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. By leaving a bequest, you can extend your legacy to benefit many Kiwi families affected by rare muscle wasting conditions both now, and in the years ahead.

How can I leave a bequest to MDANZ?

We recommend you seek the advice of a solicitor when making a bequest. Some wording we suggest is;

“I give and bequeath to: Muscular Dystrophy Association of NZ Inc …….% of my estate
or the sum of $………… or the residue of my estate after all other beneficiaries have been paid.
I declare that the receipt of an officer of the Muscular Dystrophy Association of NZ Inc shall be a full and sufficient discharge for my trustee.”
